Steamboat consistently ranks as one of the best ski towns

best ski towns

We're biased, of course, because we live here and we LOVE it. Other locals know what we mean, and we all share a great amount of pride for our pretty ski town. However, we're not the only ones who know just how amazing this place is. Steamboat Springs regularly appears on top 10 and favorites lists each year.

Below are just a few sources who happen to agree with us that Steamboat Springs is a great place to live and to play:

Best Ski Towns to Live In

On this 2016 list from Smart Asset, Steamboat Springs ranks No. 6 out of 92 ski towns that were evaluated on a number of factors, including income, crime rate, dining and entertainment options. According to Smart Asset, Steamboat "had the ninth highest concentration of dining and entertainment establishments of any town we considered, including over 50 full-service restaurants. Though some may identify Steamboat with its American West heritage, today the culinary offerings and nightlife are as much a draw as the dude ranches outside of town."

USA Today Readers' Choice

In the USA Today 10 Best poll for 2016, Steamboat Springs ranked as the public's No. 5 favorite ski towns:

"Part working cowboy town, part ski resort, Steamboat Springs is much more down-to-earth than other resorts in the state. It's also one of the few ski resorts in the nation with a hot springs near the base, perfect for relaxing sore muscles after a long day on the slopes."

Best of the West

Sunset magazine, a publication dedicated to the western region of the United States, lists Steamboat as its No. 2 pick for best ski towns, thanks to its Old West charm and some of the best ski slopes.

Best of North America

Powder Magazine tallied 45,000 votes in late 2015 to determine that Steamboat Springs was the national favorite among its readers. Steamboat resident Eugene Buchanan described the town for readers, saying, "Located far enough from the Front Range to avoid Denver’s day traffic, it also seldom gets the crowds to track it up. You’ll wait longer to change your clothes in the Tepee at nearby Strawberry Park Hot Springs than you will at any lift."

These are just a few of the many accolades Steamboat receives each year. If you have never visited, we invite you to come see what the buzz is about. Our guess is you will want to come back for years to come. Or, like many of us, you might just make Steamboat your permanent home.
